Mobilink pays homage to Mehdi Hassan – Pakistan’s Living Legend

Karachi: April 10th, 2009 – Mobilink, the country’s market leader in cellular communications and part of Orascom Telecom Holding, today presented a cheque to the family of Mehdi Hassan Khan, a true living legend in Pakistan

The amount includes a humble contribution by Mobilink towards the medical expenses incurred as the King of Ghazal recovers from his ailment in addition to donations generated from a recent SMS campaign paying homage to the legendary singer. Mehdi Hassan was hospitalized in October 2008 following a chest infection and continues to be under medical care. 

Tariq Durrani, Regional Director Sales Mobilink presented the cheque to Arif Mehdi, son of the legendary singer. Wishing for the Ghazal King’s speedy recovery, Durrani added, “We are thankful to our customers for showing such affection for the great master. Their responses via SMS to contribute towards this special fund is ample proof of his fan following and the reverence he continues to enjoy in the hearts of the people.”

The evergreen melody “Yeh Watan Tumhara Hai” that has been translated into a video by Mobilink, remains Mehdi Hassan’s legacy in addition to his services to classical music in Pakistan and to the country at large.
